Riverside National Cemetery
DESCRIPTION
Riverside National Cemetery, one of the first major National Cemeteries developed after World War II, is located on the former Army training facility Camp Haan.  RHAA master planned this 750-acre site for the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.  In addition to the master planning, design work has included land restoration and development of the first four phases.  Phase 4 was completed in early 1995, increasing the developed land area to 285 acres with a total of 80,000 interments since the cemetery opened in 1978. The main entrance, administration building, flag area, lakes, committal service shelters, columbaria, 1,3000 seat amphitheater memorial/assembly area, maintenance center, infrastructure, and landscaping are complete.  The lakes, while serving a major aesthetic function, provide storage for irrigation water, including wastewater treatment from adjacent March Air Force Base.
