Palace of Fine Arts Landscape and Lagoon Rehabilitation
DESCRIPTION
The Palace of Fine Arts and the lagoon were created by architect Bernard Maybeck for the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition, and are one of the finest examples of the union of architecture and landscape in America. RHAA provided planning and design assistance for the rehabilitation of the lagoon and surrounding landscape. RHAA prepared a historic landscape report and a master plan for the park, and then prepared design plans for the rehabilitation work. The $5 million rehabilitation included removal of lagoon sediment, reconstruction of the lagoon edge, pathways, and planting and irrigation of the surrounding landscape.
