A new visitor information center will serve the majority of park visitors using new day-use parking areas at the east end of Yosemite Village. The Welcome Center provides visitor orientation and a staffed information center located in a Mission 66-era building near the Village Store. The outdoor plaza includes amphitheater-style seating for ranger programs, orientation and interpretive exhibits, and a new restroom building. The site preserves existing trees, a seasonal stream and adjacent wetlands. Circulation is provided with accessible paths, bicycle parking, and access to shuttle bus stops. The Welcome Center is designed to complement the unique design traditions of Yosemite National Park. The $5.4 million project is scheduled for opening in 2021.
