RHAA was the competition winner for this 56-acre civic waterfront park in South Lake Tahoe. The site is located on the lakefront with sweeping vistas of the lake and mountains. The civic park will serve as the community hub and primary outdoor civic space for the City of South Lake Tahoe. A large beach and boat launch area will be redesigned to improve access to the lake.
RHAA’s design concept includes a rejuvenated waterfront with terraced seating areas, a community fire pit, a small boat storage building and food concession, and an elevated walkway for viewing the lake. A themed campground with group fireplace hearths and small ‘green’ buildings would provide an alternative camping experience on the site. Water quality basins are design to process all storm water runoff. An interpretive walk teaching about the natural and cultural history of the site provides an amenity for local schools as well as lake visitors. The project also includes a new library, senior center, historical museum and outdoor forest amphitheater. Designed to enhance the natural beauty of the area, the project will bring together the vision of the city, county and community.
