Tunnel View Rehabilitation
DESCRIPTION
RHAA completed improvements to the historic Tunnel View Overlook at the east end of Yosemite’s Wawona Tunnel. The improvements include expanded viewing areas, improved safety for pedestrians, accessibility, redesigned parking areas, and a new trailhead. The project incorporates the historic site design completed in 1933, and restored the original views through the removal of volunteer trees. The design includes rustic stonework to compliment the historic walls. A broad, comfortable viewing area replaces a narrow 5’-wide sidewalk that forced crowds to stand in the roadway. New interpretive elements include a bronze sculpture map of Yosemite Valley.
