1885 University Avenue in Berkeley, California is a mixed-use retail and residential complex near the University of California Berkeley campus.  The project includes several roof gardens that serve as amenities for the residents.  A large central roof garden was designed as an urban “campfire” with glowing artificial boulders providing a warm campfire feeling within a garden of dune grasses and trees.  Upper level terraces include a party area with a large field turf lawn, vine covered trellises and small conversation groups with Adirondack chair seating.
