400 California Street

Together with Gensler, RHAA assisted in updating a mid-1960s Robert Royston roof terrace design on top of the historic Bank of California as part of a necessary seismic retrofit of the building. The central sunken court was elevated which impacted surrounding planters and mature Indian Laurel Fig trees. Given the historical nature of both building and roof, the client preferred to reintroduce the original Modernist planting palette consisting of multi-trunk fig trees, creeping ivy, Mugo pine, carpet bugle, all bound by boxwood at the perimeter.
