The master plan for Bakersfield National Cemetery highlights the site’s natural features, including rolling hills, mature oaks, and views of the Tehachapi Mountains, while memorializing the service of veterans through thoughtfully integrated site elements. RHAA, as a subconsultant to Huitt-Zollars, prepared the Master Plan and Phase One construction documents for the new 500-acre cemetery.
Phase One improvements include 3,510 columbarium niches, 4,000 crypts, 4,713 in-ground cremation interments, and 913 traditional graves, as well as the entrance gate, administration building, assembly area, columbaria, memorial wall, flagpole, committal shelter, maintenance center, and supporting infrastructure. The landscape design follows xeriscape principles, limiting irrigated planting areas to key locations throughout the site.
