Duboce Triangle Superstation

In 2008, SFMTA began design for a 20+ million dollar infrastructure project to replace rails along Duboce and Church.  The Duboce Triangle Neighborhood Association (DTNA) recognized the project as an opportunity to better serve the needs of bicycles, pedestrians and transit users, and to enhance the neighborhood’s sense of place – in keeping with city policies for “Better Streets.”  RHAA, through its 1% pro bono design program, partnered with the DTNA to help the community envision streetscape design opportunities and to serve as a professional technical liaison and design advocate for the community – ensuring that the community’s desires were realized and incorporated into the City’s plans.   The resulting design and process illustrates a model for successful partnership for large capital projects, where City agencies and the community working with professional design advocates share in the creation of great neighborhood spaces.
