During the 2017 Napa wildfires, half of the structures at Enchanted Hills Camp for the Blind were destroyed and over 700 trees were lost. Founded in 1950 by blind leader Rose Resnick, Enchanted Hills was the first camp for the blind west of the Mississippi. It has enabled blind children and families to explore, have a connection to community, thrive and gain confidence. RHAA is working with Perkins + Will Architects along with the camp’s parent organization, The Lighthouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired, to reimagine and rebuild the camp as a jewel of learning and empowerment for the blind community. New path networks, cabins, and camp amenities are being designed to reinforce the camper experience camp programs and facilities, as well as the surrounding woods, meadows and creeks.
