Presidio Mason Street Bus Layover

Together with MWA Architects and TYLin Engineering, RHAA designed layover improvements for the SFMTA Muni 30 line that terminates on Mason Street west of Sports Basement in the Presidio. Park visitors and Muni bus drivers will have the opportunity to sit and rest in a small plaza that provides a new restroom adjacent to Building 638, seating, bike racks, waste receptacles, a water bottle filler, and lighting. The hardscape improvements are surrounded by native planting and a bioretention basin that treats stormwater on-site. All plants are indigenous to the Presidio and collected from nearby seed. Working with the Presidio, the design sensitively navigates a nearby wetland, land use control zones, and an archeological site. In addition, new circulation connections are made to Sports Basement and Crissy Field. RHAA also prepared a feasibility study for a new multi-use trail that would connect Battery Tunnel Tops with the bus terminal below.
