The landscape design for Serendipity School, an independent K-5 school located in Belmont, California, is designed to provide an enriched campus experience for students, faculty and visitors.
The project uses the natural topography to create new, woodland, nature inspired play environment. Students are able to enjoy a variety of play experiences within the design, from musical and sensory play, to climbing, sliding and swinging play. A new ADA accessible winding path provides access to the entirety of the play space for students of all abilities. A willow play area, embankment slide and outdoor learning area stem off the central path that leads to a large playground and amphitheater at the top of the hill. In addition, at the base of the hill is an outdoor classroom and play space for kindergarten aged children. The forest play area includes a working garden space with a greenhouse and garden beds, a forest classroom and a nature play area.
